A Classic Holiday Cocktail Recipe
A blow-up Baby Yoda is holding a candy cane on my lawn. We’re trying to choose which Hallmark Christmas movie to watch. It’s cold outside, but I’m inside, sipping on a steaming cup of hot buttered rum. The holiday season is upon us.
Hot buttered rum always makes me think of Bing Crosby, “hot buttered rum, light on the butter,” as he describes the Christmas season in Vermont. So even though it’s cold outside, you can still warm your insides with this classic holiday cocktail, even when sticking to a keto diet.
I prefer to make a batter for my hot buttered rum, and this recipe makes two servings. However, it can also be doubled or tripled and stored in an airtight container in the fridge. This makes it easy to fix up a couple drinks in the amount of time it takes to boil the water.
Before starting the recipe, bring the butter to room temperature. Combine the butter, sweetener, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mash together with a fork until fully combined. Add the heavy cream and stir.
Split the mixture between two mugs and add 2 tablespoons of dark rum to each mug, or adjust the rum to your taste. Pour 3/4 cup of boiling water in each mug and stir until the batter is dissolved. You can adjust amounts to suite your tastes.
